Size: 48 x 48cm
Medium: Ink on Cotton Duck Canvas
Lines of Life is an original, hand-drawn artwork by Singapore artist Preetie Kohli, worked in fluorescent ink on black cotton duck canvas and part of the Tides & Thickets collection. It measures 48 × 48cm and arrives framed in wood without glass, ready to hang. It is one of a kind — the piece you receive is the original, not a print.
This piece began as an experiment: a new surface, cotton duck canvas, and a rule of only dots and lines. On one of my many trips to my favourite kind of place, a stationery store (in any city, it is always a must), I picked up a set of dual-nib markers and set myself a challenge. A black canvas is perhaps the hardest ground to work on. It soaks up every colour you give it, and its rough surface is unkind to ordinary ink. It took a while, and many pens, before I settled on a five-colour set of fluorescent dual-nib markers. What slowly emerged was a thicket of dots with butterflies moving through it, a quiet note on transformation and on hope.

Care Instructions: This piece is drawn directly onto canvas and framed without glass, so the surface is left open. Keep it out of direct sunlight, which can fade the ink over time, and away from humid or damp spaces — a cool, dry room suits it best. Avoid touching the surface, and dust gently with a soft, dry brush; avoid water or cleaning products on the canvas. If it's hung, check the hook and wire periodically so they don't mark the canvas or wall.
